The Department of Physics at Canisius College is proud to bring the 107th Topical Meeting of the NYSS-APS to Western New York. The meeting this Fall will explore the "Physics of Water".

Water is an abundant and valuable substance. It covers approximately 70% of the Earth's surface and is necessary for all forms of life. Today, research of water is revealing many fascinating and unexpected properties.

The invited talks will cover such topics as

• Mpemba effects
• hydrophobic materials
• hydrogeology and groundwater
• clouds and climate
• quantum mechanics and water

Dr. Robin E. Bell from the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University will give the keynote lecture on "Change at the Poles".

Other meeting activities include a poster session with contributions from both undergraduate and graduate students. We encourage students to submit posters of their work in any area of physics; best judged posters will receive cash awards.

The meeting is sponsored in part by TeachSpin, located in Buffalo, NY. TeachSpin is "dedicated to the design, development, manufacture, and marketing of apparatus appropriate for laboratory instruction in physics and engineering". Their representatives will be available to demonstrate some of their equipment.
